History

The history of denture occlusion, especially in the form of articulators goes back to the nineteenth century, where our modern day concepts on how the jaws work, still having a foundation from these early thought processes and beliefs. These beliefs were through individual’s spiritual and geometrical view points and had very little or none in most cases any scientific support to show that any of their assumptions are true. Through this, most current articulators are linear (move in a straight line) in design and are based purely on geometrical concepts, which results in a common understanding within dentistry that it is very difficult and some would say impossible to reproduce any dynamic movement of the jaw to represent what is happening the mouth to the modern day articulator.

Our founders in conjunction with Loughborough University conducted numerous studies and subsequent tests to measure and describe the dynamic function of the muscles of mastication in healthy, dentate adults. Specifically, the study was designed to determine if there are common patterns of masticatory muscle function and whether a given occlusal loading model generates more muscle activity than another. Posterior guided occlusion was proven to give the patient the most muscular function and benefits. The Study was extended to edentulous patients with Full/Full dentures, which showed the same results, which resulted in the patient having completely stable dentures under function, with greatly improved muscle activity.

These years of study and refinement allowed us to develop an all new way to manufacture a better denture. The CQR process produces stable dentures while they are in function, hence giving the patient a wider range of function based on the actual anatomy of the patient.

Currently, CQR continues to work on the science of occlusion at the University of Texas Dental School Houston, Griffiths University, Queensland, Australia, George Brown University, Canada, and Bates College in Tacoma, Washington.
