“This is my first CQR case: Mrs W, age 77 years, F/F dentures 11 years old

Mrs W presented on the 27th of November 2014 with a set of upper and lower dentures that were 11 years old. Her major complaints regarding her dentures were that she was struggling to chew harder food, and she wasn’t showing enough teeth anymore due to wear and gum shrinkage. Her dentures were loose and she was suffering from soreness on the mandible. She also wanted to go a shade lighter in colour to freshen things up a bit.

Due to her age and dexterity I decided to choose her as a first recipient of the new CQR denture technique.

Impressions were taken on the 3rd of December and the denture was fitted on the 17th of December. I did a post insertion follow up with Mrs W on the 22nd of December and she was delighted with the result and had already noticed a significant improvement in the food she was able to eat compared to her previous set of dentures.

“This is my second CQR case. Mr. J age 83 years- Denture 50 years old and remaining lower teeth extracted 2 weeks prior to initial consultation. Mr. J presented on the 4th of February 2015 with a fifty year old upper denture that had been converted from a partial plastic denture to a full upper denture over a long time frame. The denture had been modified and altered in many ways and was now ill fitting resulting in areas of hyperplasia and inflamed maxillary ridges. Mr. J had had his remaining lower teeth extracted and was informed by his oral surgeon to wait 3 months for the gums to settle before commencing with a new set of dentures. Mr. J was not happy to do this as he required dentures for his working life and could not go 3 months edentulous. After discussing the pros and cons he made the choice to undergo denture treatment straight away. I took his impressions on the 9th of February and he was fitted with his new dentures on the 3rd March.

A follow up was undertaken on the 9th of March and apart from the obvious issues that a full lower delayed immediate denture causes the dentures were working extremely well.

I am yet to see Mr. J again which is rare as you would normally see a case like this more than once due to settling in issues, so this again reinforces the success that CQR dentures are having in my practice.Thank you.”– Chris Parkes - CDT NZ
