History

The first form of dentures was introduced around 1770. As you can imagine, the early forms were not very comfortable or secure. They were made by hand from a variety of materials including porcelain, gold, and hard rubber. Dentistry was not the sophisticated method of medicine that it is today. Dental work was often executed by people such as barbers or goldsmiths.

The first real advancement for the manufacturing of dentures came in 1840 with the invention of the “articulator”. This was a piece of equipment that allowed casts of the upper and lower teeth to be fixed and represented a artificial jaw. It had a simple hinge to represent the opening and closing of the mouth.

Over the years, small changes were made in the types of materials used in dentures along with procedures in how the dentures with cast. The problem was that the human jaw does not move like a hinge. It moves up and down, side to side and forwards and backwards. So, it was very difficult to really get a good pair of dentures that worked well and performed comfortably. The results were often uncomfortable, unstable and did not look or work in a natural manner.

The experts of CQR knew that the entire process of making dentures needed modernization and improvement. In 1991 our team began extensive clinical studies of over 200 examples to determine how the jaw really worked. This anatomical information was used with modern engineering to create a process that allowed practitioners to make great fitting dentures every time.

CQR has truly revolutionized dentures. Every aspect of the process has been modernized and improved. It’s so unique that our equipment received exclusive patents for the technology. We combined the improved methods and equipment with 21st century materials so that our dentures fit better, work better, and look better.

With decades of research backing our products and methods, CQR released our first modern denture in the US in 2012. Currently, CQR continues to lead the way in research and development through associations with The University of Texas Dental School Houston, Griffiths University, Queensland, Australia, George Brown University, Canada and Bates College.

The success of the CQR method continues to expand with operations in Australia, New Zealand, Canada, The United Kingdom, and Europe.
